The Mechanical Innovation Design Competition, organized by the Student Association for Science and Technology of the DME, is a three-star scientific and technological innovation contest. It provides students within the department with a platform for participation in advanced scientific and innovative events. In the competition, participants are encouraged to independently design and make their own creations. This aims to hone their scientific and technological innovation capabilities and hands-on skills to the fullest extent. Dedicated to fostering a positive academic and school spirit characterized by rigor, diligence, truth-seeking, and innovation, the competition seeks to nurture high-quality talents for the 21st century. Guided by the principles of “advocating science, pursuing true knowledge, embracing innovation, and rising to challenges”, the competition strives to ignite students’ passion for “being mindful of the motherland, seeking truth, displaying dauntless spirit, and engaging in research”. The ultimate goal is to inspire students to contribute meaningfully to the progress of science and technology on both national and global scales.
The Mechanical Innovation Design Competition, an independent platform for scientific and technological innovation hosted by Tsinghua University, is an integral component of the National Undergraduate Mechanical Innovation Design Competition. Approved by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, the National Undergraduate Mechanical Innovation Design Competition is a large-scale scientific and technological activity for college students. It is sponsored by the Teaching Guidance Committee of Mechanical Disciplines in Higher Education and organized by the Teaching Guidance Sub-Committee of Mechanical Foundation Courses in collaboration with renowned universities. The objective is to cultivate comprehensive design abilities and a collaborative spirit and reinforce the development of students’ hands-on skills and engineering practices. It aims to enhance the abilities of students for practical work in mechanical innovation, design, and production to address real-world needs. Furthermore, it strives to attract and motivate students to engage in extracurricular scientific and technological activities and create favorable conditions for outstanding talents.
The 22nd Tsinghua University Mechanical Innovation Design Competition centers around the theme “Wisdom Helps the Disabled, Action Warms the Heart.” Participants are tasked with designing and creating a mechanical device with the goal of aiding individuals with disabilities in achieving independent living. During the final defense stage, teams selected from the preliminary round presented their projects through a combination of PowerPoint presentations and on-site demonstrations. This process allowed each team to showcase their work and receive evaluations from teachers. Such feedback has enabled students to identify the strengths and weaknesses of their designs, providing valuable insights to avoid potential pitfalls in their future academic and scientific pursuits. Moreover, this constructive feedback not only guides students in their learning and research endeavors but also serves to kindle their enthusiasm for scientific and technological innovation activities. This, in turn, contributes to their future growth and success.
