The EBAM team from Tsinghua university attended the EBAM 2023 conference held in Erlangen, Germany, from March 22-24, 2023, invited by Professor Körner from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany. Professor Feng Lin was the scientific advisory committee member and chairman of the Titanium sub-forum at the conference.
During the conference, Professor Feng Lin presented a report entitled “The efforts on new machine development to promote the size and efficiency of electron beam powder bed fusion process”, which introduced the team's achievements in developing large-scale and efficient EBAM equipment. PhD student Dongfang Wang presented a report entitled “The investigation on the evolution of smoking phenomenon in electron beam powder bed fusion process”, which discussed the “powder smoking” phenomenon and its mechanism in EBAM.
The novel concepts of “dual-electron-gun preheating technology” and the four-stage development theory of the “powder smoking” phenomenon were proposed for the first time at international conferences by Tsinghua’s team, which received recognition from the peer experts.
Dr. Yang Li (postdoctoral researcher) and Mohan Jiao (PhD candidate for class 2023) participated in the poster exhibition at the conference. Dr. Li's poster entitled “A novel simultaneous preheating process using dual-electron-gun to achieve the high and steady powder bed temperature” won the “Best Poster Award” at the conference.

The International Conference on EBAM has been held biennially since 2016 by the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany. The conference focuses on EBAM technology and is the highest-level academic conference in the EBAM field. More than 170 representatives from 16 countries, including Germany, Sweden, Italy, Japan and China, attended the 4th international conference on EBAM. The conference is sponsored by the German Research Foundation (DFG) within the Collaborative Research Centers “Additive Manufacturing” (SFB 814) and “Superalloy Single Crystals” (SFB/TR 103).
