Research Directions
The institute is committed to conducting basic, strategic and prospective scientific researches in the field of material forming. In addition, it carries out researches on technologies and applications in such key sectors of the national economy as machinery, aerospace, national defense, transportation, energy, and electronics. After years of development, it is now oriented to the following main researches:
1) Theoretical research on material forming:This is a universal theoretical research focusing on the physical mechanism under the thermal-mechanical-structure multi-field coupling in the material forming process, the multi-scale full-process simulation of the material forming process, and the service performance of forming products, in combination with different forming processes and products.
2) Research on the applications of methods and technology of material forming: This is a systematic research on the manufacturing process and the process-structure-mechanical behavior of products, centering on such material forming methods as precision casting, pressure casting; extrusion, drawing; high-energy beam welding, brazing, diffusion welding/diffusion brazing, friction stir welding and processing, particle-reinforced composite coatings/ high-entropy alloy coating laser in-situ synthesis, etc.
3) Research on forming of typical equipment materials: This research focuses on the structural design and analysis of complex equipment, ultra-light structure design and equipment, development of magnesium alloy die-casting equipment systems, design of friction stir equipment systems, development of systems measuring numerical image deformation, etc.
4) Research on micro/nano materials and micro/nano manufacturing: This research focuses on carbon nanomaterials and micro/nano devices, ultrafast laser micro/nano manufacturing, micro/nano connections and reliability and equipment.
5) Emerging crossover research in material forming:This is an exploratory research on emerging and crossover directions, such as additive manufacturing, biofabrication, and Comeld of high-energy beams.
