Research Teams
Beijing Key Laboratory of Precision and Ultra-Precision Manufacturing Equipment and Control boasts a profound technical capacity. There are currently 51 members, including 39 with professor titles and 22 doctoral supervisors, eight National High-level Talents, eight National Young Talents, two Beijing Municipal Distinguished Teachers, two National Premium Course leaders, four New Century Excellent Talents recognized by the Ministry of Education, one Beijing Municipal Distinguished Youth, one New Sci-Tech Star in Beijing, two scholars receiving German Humboldt Research Fellowships, two winners of the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertations, and two winners of the HIWIN Award for Outstanding Mechanical Doctoral Dissertations.
Research Directions
To meet the demands for national construction and discipline development, Beijing Key Laboratory of Precision and Ultra-Precision Manufacturing Equipment and Control carries out basic, strategic and prospective researches on precision and ultra-precision processing technology, control and equipment, oriented to the following fields:
1. Design of precision manufacturing equipment, including: conceptual design and mechanism configuration synthesis of advanced manufacturing equipment; kinematics and dynamics analysis of manufacturing equipment; analysis and optimization of static, dynamic and thermal performance of manufacturing equipment and components; machine tool interface characteristics and parameter identification, etc.
2. Microelectronics manufacturing equipment and CNC, including: precision mechanical mechanisms and structures; measurement and control; electromagnetic analysis and design; special materials and processes; high-speed and high-precision motion control; high-end network-based motion control.
3. Precision and special manufacturing, including: high-speed precision cutting, ultra-precision grinding, ultrasonic vibration processing, magnetorheological polishing, high-speed EDM, micro EDM, high-quality mirror special processing and precision and ultra-precision cutting methods.
4. High-precision multi-function robots, including: theory of robot configuration design, performance evaluation methods of robot mechanisms and equipment, and methods for parametric optimization design of mechanisms.
Teaching and Talent Cultivation
Beijing Key Laboratory of Precision and Ultra-Precision Manufacturing Equipment and Control offers up to 40 courses for undergraduates and postgraduates. The Basics of Manufacturing Engineering and the Mechanical Drawing were titled Beijing and National Premium Courses. The laboratory has made profound achievements in teaching, winning one National Teaching Achievement Award, three first prizes of Beijing Municipal Education Teaching Achievement Award, one grand prize, four first prizes, and four second prizes of the Education and Teaching Achievement Award of Tsinghua University, two first prizes and four second prizes of the Experimental Technology Achievement Award of Tsinghua University, and one first prize and one second prize of the Excellent Teaching Software Award of Tsinghua University. There are currently about 150 master's and doctoral students studying in the laboratory.
Scientific Research Conditions and Results
Beijing Key Laboratory of Precision and Ultra-Precision Manufacturing Equipment and Control is equipped with 10-plus high-end CNC machines, such as high-precision EDM machines, ultrasonic vibration precision machining tools, five-axis high-speed machining centers, and precision horizontal machining centers, plus multiple sets of precision micro stages, and more than 100 sets of precision equipment and instruments, such as 5-DoF laser interferometry systems, laser interferometers, variable pressure scanning electron microscopes, three-dimensional PIV/micro-PIV flow analysis systems, and LMS machine tool modal testing systems. The equipment amounts to a total value of more than RMB 66 million yuan.
The laboratory is home to winners of the second prize of the State Natural Science Award, the second prize of the State Science and Technology Advancement Award, and 20-plus provincial and ministerial scientific research and teaching awards. It has published 21 important books and textbooks, more than 710 SCI papers, and more than 790 EI papers, and has been authorized with over 900 invention patents. Two dissertations won the HIWIN Award for Outstanding Mechanical Doctoral Dissertations.
